Crofton Beam Engines will open on Saturday 16 April 2022 10.15am – 4.00pm Not in Steam on that day
This is your chance to view the mighty engines before they swing into life on Easter Sunday and Monday, when for those two days they will perform their original role, pumping water from the Kennet and Avon Canal to the summit pond over a mile away from the station. On a non-steaming day entrance to the site is free and there is no need to book in advance.
There is an admission charge for the Georgian Grade 1 Listed engine house to view the static engines. Last entry to pumping station 3pm.
Crofton Beam Engines plan to open at weekends until the end of September 2022, with steaming at least once a month. Keep an eye on our What’s On page.
An adult admission to the pumping station costs £5 (£5.50 with Gift Aid) on a non-steaming day. Children (under 16) free. Car Park charges apply. These charges help support our work to keep Crofton open for visitors to enjoy. You will find knowledgeable volunteers on site. Many have spent the winter tending the machinery and caring for the grounds. Storm Eunice did her best to delay opening, but the slates on the roof have been repaired and scaffolding removed just in time. A great team effort all round!
The café is closed but visitors are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy overlooking the canal and railway. The picnic area is not under cover. No refreshments are available to purchase on site. Please note that the only access to the site is via the main gate opposite the car park. No access from the lower canal entrance at lock 60.
